WNA Block Party by Christopher Burch, Jessica Higgins, Erika Knerr and Joshua Selman
The Wonderland Neighborhood Association (WNA) is an informal self-organizing arts collective originating with the Wonderland exhibition, founded by Jessica Higgins, Erika Knerr and Joshua Selman and developed and augmented by Christopher Burch. The sole purpose of the WNA is to organize bi-annual arts events in the Tenderloin community with the goal of promoting resident and guest artist organizers for the benefit of the Tenderloin residents and visitors to their area. It is the goal of the project to pass the WNA, as a qualifying entity, to pass to a local artist organizers the ongoing management of an artists collective in the Tenderloin committed to using art for positive impact on quality of life throughout the neighborhood.
A launch of the Wonderland Neighborhood Association will begin with the inaugural WNA Block Party, which is an event score written by its founders and inspired by Dick Higgins, George Brecht and Charlotte Moorman. In conjunction with the Wonderland exhibition, WNA secured the use of Boeddeker Park at Jones and Eddy streets in the Tenderloin. The often, closed gates of the park will be opened October 17th for the Wonderland exhibition and used as a gathering space. San Francisco artist Christopher Burch, who works locally out of his studio in Tenderloin, transformed the original event score into a workable project, and organized the day of performances for the block party from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, Boeddeker Park and around the Tenderloin, throughout the opening of the Wonderland exhibition.
