I sent some examples of my installations to Saija Hollmen and Helena Sandman and asked that they make space in their design for my piece. I am very pleased with the five identical ice lanterns the architects created and in which I inscribed my words. The lanterns human scale, their confining curved interior walls and the fluid space between each of them creates a dynamic space for my work. I like to think that my contribution to the project adds an extra personal, ironic and even ambiguous dimension to the beautiful minimal experience.

Five meditative spaces, each accommodating one person, each exuding the distinctive scent and taste, acoustics and intimacy of ice and snow. These ice lanterns were linked to the northern sky by the light of the five named stars in the constellation of Ursa Minor as projected on Rovaniemi at 8 pm on 10 February, 2004. The miniature scale of the world of ice was brought close for discovery. Representing the five stars, the lanterns froze at a moment in time as we turned to travel through infinity.
