Artlantic - Exhibition Description 2013

I am so excited to begin the second exhibition for the ARTLANTIC series. Becoming gives me the exhilarating task of seeking out and discovering new artists from New Jersey. In the past year of curating and realizing Wonder I have had the pleasure of working with some of art history’s most influential artists such as Robert Barry, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, John Roloff and Kiki Smith.  Now I have the opportunity of commissioning four emerging artists whose work will be placed alongside these icons.Through this multi-year long opportunity of working in Atlantic City, I hope that each exhibition will address different issues.  In this case, recognizing the talent that already exists here is vital. Furthermore, I feel a strong responsibility to help evolve a young artist’s career through facilitating new work and ideas.  After an exhaustive search of six months I am delighted to present new commissions by Robert Lach and Jed Morfit. These New Jersey based artists are designing fresh and new installations to join what ARTLANTIC has already accomplished.I am also delighted to be working with land artist Peter Hutchinson again.  A seminal artist whose early earth works changed how the art world looked at itself will create an historic performance and installation for ARTLANTIC.  This Thrown rope installation will be his largest one to date and the only one on view in the USA.Lance M.
