Artist Biography

Hector Dionicio Mendoza is a mixed-media artist, curator, and educator based in Salinas California. His mixed-media practice includes sculpture, installation and two-dimensional works that combine natural, organic and synthetic materials. Mendoza’s work explores a wide range of themes, including the relationship between history, race and nature. Mendoza obtained his MFA in Painting from Yale University and a BFA in Sculpture from the California College of the Arts. Recently he was awarded the 2022 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award. Some of his past fellowships include the Eureka Fellowship by the Fleishhacker Foundation as well as the Sally and Don Lucas, artist in residency fellowship at Montalvo Art Center. Mendoza’s work is currently on view at the Orange County Museum of Art’s California biennial 2022. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Mexico. Mendoza is currently an associate professor of Sculpture and Installation at the Visual and Public Art Department at CSUMB. Hector Dionicio Mendoza is represented by Luis de Jesus Los Angeles Gallery
