New Exhibition with Monterey Museum of Art

Fung is mentoring and challenging thirteen ambitious emerging artists with ages ranging between their 20’s and 50’s to conceive and realize artwork that addresses the global hazard of plastic pollution. Fortunately, the news media has covered the subject through recent pieces about the ban on plastic straws and images of beached whales filled with plastic or birds suffocating from a single use plastic bag, and so on. These horrific images are engraved in the minds of everyone who learns of the stories but since our news cycle is so fleeting, readers move on to the next atrocity or what the Kardashians are up to.

In the case of the thirteen conceptual artists, each conducted their general research to select a topic that is personal and relevant to them. After this determination was made, each artist dug deep into academic research and emerged with an art concept that is visual, artistic, relevant, and didactic.

Fung Collaboratives reached out to several partners to exhibit the artwork to large and differing audiences. Happily Redwood City’s 2nd annual STEAM Fest event will unveil the artworks down the middle of Hamilton Street between Broadway and Winslow streets in Redwood City. Into the Depths will be on view on April 27th from 11 AM – 3 PM with an anticipated audience of approximately 6,000 children and adults. Fung Collaboratives will have information about each artwork along with material on the environmental issues related to the artists’ inspiration on view in their booth, as well as providing a creative project for children to participate in and to learn from.

Into the Depths will culminate in a proper exhibition at the prestigious Monterey Museum of Art, La Mirada, Dart Gallery. The exhibition will open with an evening reception from 3:00 – 5:00 PM on May 4th and be on view from 11:30 AM – 5 PM on May 5th and 11th.

Participating artists: Frank Boban, Marcia Boyajian, Steven Dellicarpini, Michael Diaz, Sarah Gendler, Juyoung Ku, Sandy Lee, Peter Moen, Maricel Reid, Tiffany Seav, Kayla Stafinbil, Patrick Viruel, Wen Wen.
