Cynthia Gonzalez is a Mexican-American artist. Born in El Paso, Texas, Gonzalez spent her formative years traveling to and from Juarez, Mexico where her family resided. In the early 90s, her family immigrated to San Jose, California where she still resides. She has been painting since 2003 and sculpting since 2009. Her work is vibrant in color and packed with sibylline symbolism. She is incorporating found objects and non-traditional mediums such as felt and caulking to create eccentric and relevant artwork. Her work is inspired by dreams, nightmares, and mental illness. She visually communicates the anxiety and daily dysphoria that is a familiar recurrence in her everyday life. She is a graduate of San Jose State, with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts with her primary focus in sculpture. She has exhibited in the San Jose Museum of Art and Kaleid Gallery in San Jose. Gonzalez is an active vendor in the South First Street art walks since 2012.
